UAE-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) announced that its recycling of spent pot lining climbed up by 13pc to 46,696mt in 2019 from the prior year. The recycled spent pot lining was utilised by cement plants as an alternative fuel and raw material, the company announced in a release issued to mark global recycling day on March 18.
EGA recycled 140,000mt of industrial waste in 2019, up by 36pc from 2018 and decreased its waste output. The company also recycled over 28,000mt of carbon fines and dispatched them to cement plants to be used as alternative fuel.
The company is conducting research on finding economically viable uses for bauxite residue, a by-product of alumina refining. Most of the bauxite residue produced worldwide is still stored indefinitely as waste. EGA produced more than 2.6mn mt of cast metal in 2019, unchanged from the year prior.
