Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) announced the closure of a bauxite mines for three months amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The mine supplies bauxite to ERG’s alumina plant located in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. The step was taken keeping in line with a drop in global alumina and aluminium prices.
ERG’s Torgai mine fulfils 3.4pc of the total bauxite need of the plant. Pavlodar plant produces 1.5mn mt of alumina annually. Alumina is supplied to the company smelter plant and the remaining quantity is sold to Russian and Chinese consumers.
