Aluminum foil deliveries by European producers grew by 1.7pc in Q3 2020, with exports up by 13.7pc, the European Aluminum Foil Association (EAFA) stated. It did not, however, disclose volumes for the quarter.

The association expects sales to pick up during the holiday season but is concerned about the COVID-19 related lockdowns across many member countries impacting traditional business, Guido Aufdemkamp, the EAFA’s executive director noted.

In January-September, foil deliveries tallied at 709,000mt, trending almost flat to 715,000mt in the first three quarters of 2019. The rise in Q3 sales was attributed to the reopening of most consumer industries, with sales of thin gauge, used in household foils, growing by 5.2pc. However, thicker gauges used in semi-flexible containers declined by 4.5pc on an annual basis.
