A fire broke out at Blast Furnace 2 (BF2) of the Sail-owned Bokaro Steel Plant on Friday at 8:40 am. The fire occurred due to a leakage in the torpedo ladle of the furnace after hot metal spilled over tracks and affected cables in the cable gallery.
Davis Index has learned that per an initial assessment production will not be impacted with operations resuming within hours of the incident. Repair works at the furnace would be completed soon in the next few days. There were no casualties reported in the incident. Officials are presently assessing the damage caused by the fire.
Bokaro Steel Plant has five blast furnaces with a total hot metal production capacity of 5.25mn mt.
