American automaker, Ford Motors is considering the shutdown of its manufacturing operations in India. The company is yet to decide the fate of its Maraimalainagar and Sanand factories. A decision regarding these two factories could come later in the year.

 

The carmaker has been in talks with several of its counterparts for contract manufacturing or sale of its factories in India, the latest being with Ola, which could use these factories for the manufacturing of its electric fleet.

 

Recently, Ola has emerged as a big player in the takeover of factories for contract manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs).

 

Two factories owned by Ford in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have a total output capacity of 400,000 units. Previously, the automaker had been on the lookout for leasing out its factories for contract manufacturing. It had even indulged in talks with MG Motors and Changan.

 

Ola and Citreon have emerged as frontrunners for the takeover of Ford units in India, according to reports.
