Smelters in the Gulf Cooperation Council region produced 5.77mn mt of primary aluminium in 2019, according to the Gulf Aluminium Council (GAC) statistics.
The top five producers in the period were EGA at 2.57mn mt, Alba at 1.36mn mt, Ma’aden at 0.77mn mt, Qatalum at 0.66mn mt and Sohar at 0.39mn mt. EGA’s primary aluminium output dropped from 2.63mn mt in 2018, while Alba’s output grew from 1.01mn mt in 2018.
Alba targets to boost its primary aluminium production to 1.54mn mt in 2020 after it ramps up the company’s line 6 facility under their Titan project. EGA touted as the world’s largest producer of premium aluminium, provided aluminium smelting technology for Alba’s line 6 expansion.
