The shipment of US iron ore via the Great Lakes decreased by 27pc to 28.2mn nt in the first three quarters in 2020 compared with the same nine-month period in 2019 according to the Lake Carrier’s Association.

 

Iron ore trade via the Great Lakes declined by 33.1pc to 3.9mn nt (3.5mn mt) in September from the same month last year. In fact, against the five-year average in the respective time periods in 2019, September shipments declined by 30pc while January-September volumes were 24.2pc down the association indicated.

 

September iron ore shipment improved by 8pc from 3.6mn nt shipped in August, which had seen a decline of 40.3pc from August 2019.
