Group Eleven has identified a new area rich in copper, nickel, and platinum-group metals (PGMs) at its Ballinalack Zinc mine in Ireland.

The Canadian miner announced recent drilling at Ballinalack—which is 60pc owned by Group Eleven—intersected an area rich in these minerals that likely extends several kilometers.

Preliminary findings from the drilling include a deposit consisting of 0.24pc copper at 1.95 meters, as well as 0.33pc copper and 0.11pc nickel at 0.95 meters. Another sample of sulphide-rich core from this region returned 1.08pc nickel, 0.32pc copper, and 1105 ppm of cobalt.

The drilling additionally found gold deposits in the area.

The discoveries add more value to the Irish mine, which is primarily zinc-focused. However, Bart Jaworski, chief executive officer of Group Eleven said, that while the company intends to keep working on PGMs in the future, it is focused on exploring the mine for zinc and expanding existing deposits at Ballinalack.

In a few weeks, the company will announce the zinc-lead results from a drill program it recently completed in the area.
