Iran-based steel producer Hormozgan Steel Company (HOSCO) produced 140,624mt of crude steel in January 2021, achieving a new record in steel production, according to media reports citing an official from the company.
The company said that it was able to establish a new output record in January despite the US sanctions, COVID-19 pandemic, and lack of access to raw materials and energy sources such as gas and electricity.
The company informed that it is trying to push up the steel slab production to 1.5mn mt which is the nominal capacity of the company.
The company produced 1.44mn mt and 1.46mn mt of slabs in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The nominal production capacity of DRI in the direct reduction unit of the company is 1.655mn mt per annum but it needs external resources to supply its DRI demand, the company informed.
