Canada-based Hudbay Mineral has temporarily shut its 777 copper, zinc, gold and silver producing mine in Flin Flin, Manitoba following a technical incident last Friday.
The incident happened during routine maintenance. The bucket used to hoist ore from underground got detached and landed to the bottom. The company reported no injuries. The inspection of the damage to the shaft will take some weeks to be assessed fully.
The company said that in the meantime they are reassigning equipment and personnel to the Lalor mine in Snow Lake to continue operations at the zinc plant by processing available zinc concentrate inventory and improving the production of zinc concentrate from the Snow Lake operations.
