Indonesia’s trade ministry has initiated an anti-dumping investigations into exports of Hot Rolled Coils (HRC) from China, according to media reports. The anti-dumping probe was launched after the state-owned steelmaker PT Krakatau Steel submitted a petition to the Indonesian Anti-dumping Committee (KADI).
Since 2019, the Indonesian steel industry has been witnessing a decline in capacity utilisation as the imports from China are priced lower. In the last five years, imports of alloy steel into Indonesia have shown an upward trend, states the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA). Imports rose from 1.4mn mt in 2015 to 3.2mn mt in 2019.
In its petition, IISIA claims that imposition of AD duty could control the imports of iron and steel, especially from China, which are carried out through unfair trade.
