Industrial production in France increased by 22pc in the second quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) reported today.

According to the Industrial Production Index (IPI) published today by the INSEE, the French manufacturing industry also had a rebound between April and June of this year, of 24pc compared to the same period a year ago.

This June, the IPI remained 5.3pc below February 2020, the last month before the lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute reported.

For its part, the Directorate-General of Customs and Indirect Taxes reported an increase in FOB imports during the second quarter of 2021, 4.4pc above the same period last year.

Imports are at 99pc of their pre-pandemic levels, although the Directorate warned that this is due to the rise in the prices of raw materials.

Exports also continue to grow, but at a more moderate pace, with an increase of 2.7pc compared to the April-June 2020 period, to reach 95pc of their pre-crisis levels.

Data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition reported that the car registry stumbled in Q2 2021, by 4.8pc compared to the same year-ago quarter.
