South Korea extends AD on Japanese steel plate
South Korea has extended existing antidumping (AD) duty on Japanese stainless-steel plate. The tariff mainly affects supplies from Japan’s Nippon Steel Stainless Steel Corp, JFE Steel Corp and Nippon Yakin Kogyo. The Korea Trade Commission, citing substantial damage to the domestic industry, will continue to apply the 13.17pc AD tariff that started in April 2011 on the Japanese products for the next five years. In 2018, South Korean origin plate consumption was 70pc of the total estimated $233mn market. Japanese products were maintained at 1-2pc of market share. Stainless-steel plates are used in many industries including the petrochemical, shipbuilding and chip segments.
