Hubei recovers; 49.3pc industries resume work
Industries in China’s Hubei province are slowly resuming production in an orderly manner. Around 7,629 companies have resumed production and according to Chinese Metal Society, resumption rate in Hubei is 49.3pc. Wuhan city in Hubei province was at the epicentre of the COVID-19 outbreak and had been under a lockdown post the Lunar New Year holidays. Apart from Hubei, industries in other provinces of China have resumed production. Hubei is the sixth largest steel producing province in China. In 2019, Hubei’s crude steel output was 36.11mn mt, pig iron output was 27.65mn mt and steel production was 37.71mn mt. Hubei province has more than 70 ferrous metal smelting and processing industries. Wuhan Iron and Steel, Hubei Egang, Daye Special Steel, Daye Huaxin Long process plant, CITIC Pacific Special Steel are five major steel companies in Hubei.
Chilean miner Codelco cuts output amid COVID-19
Chilean copper miner Codelco plans to curtail its production to curb the outbreak of COVID-19, the company said on Wednesday, March 18.
