During Q2 2021, finished steel in Latin America increased 62.1pc over the same period in 2020 and 6.9pc higher than Q1 according to data from the Latin American steel Association (Alacero).
Rolled steel consumption for the period January-May 2021 increased by 34.6pc against the same period in 2020.
According to Alacero, the accumulated growth of steel consumption in this period was 101.3pc in Argentina, 65.2pc in Peru, 50.7pc in Brazil, 39.6pc in Colombia, 25.8pc in Chile, and 14.5pc in Mexico.
Rolled steel production in June rose 56.5pc in the region compared to the same month last year. However, rolled steel and flat steel production in Latin America declined 2.8pc and 7.8pc respectively against May 2021, due to production reductions in Brazil and Mexico.
