Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Denmark-based container shipping line Maersk partnered with Jindal Stainless and deployed its 90X20’ maiden rake on July 24 from Visakha Container Terminal (VCT), Andhra Pradesh to ICD Jajpur in Odisha, according to Indian shipping service company JM Baxi Group’s latest tweet.

It is first of such rakes that will be deployed on the east coast of India connecting to the remote regions of Odisha to boost trade and cater to the current demand. The movement is likely to streamline the process of export and import by saving cost and time. The rakes would be carrying containers of steel scrap and other ancillary products from VCT to Jindal’s Jajpur facility and export finished steel products in return.

The company plans to deploy 4 more rakes in this circuit and more such new ventures are likely to be explored for all the potential rail head businesses in the remote regions.
