Malaysia’s copper scrap imports rose by 11.6pc in November from a year ago, on tighter scrap import restrictions imposed by China.
Malaysia imported 29,588mt of copper scrap in November, up by 3,065mt from the prior year. Malaysia imported 326,844mt of copper scrap in the Jan-Nov 2019 period, up by 67.8pc from 132,048mt in the prior year period.
The US was the top exporter of copper scrap to Malaysia in November with exports of 12,901mt, down by 13pc or 1,929mt from a year ago. The second largest supplier was Japan, which exported 3,808mt of copper scrap to Malaysia.
In the Jan-Nov period too, the US topped copper scrap exports into Malaysia with export of 155,094mt, up by 65.5pc or 61,374mt from the prior year period. Japan, the second largest supplier, exported 55,640mt up by 351.7pc or 43,313mt.
Malaysia is the third largest importer of copper scrap in the world, after China and Germany.
