Mechel has invested close to $3mn on the reconstruction of coke battery #8 at the plant as part of its modernization project at the Chelyabinsk Coke and Chemical Products Plant.
The company upgraded its battery #8’s coke gas offtake system which included updates to its two gasholders, gas exhaust pipe, and crude coke gas main, it said in a press release this week. The upgradation of the gasholder took the project one step closer to fulfilling the company’s agreement with Chelyabinsk Regional government, Russia’s Natural Resource Ministry and Federal Supervisory Natural Resource Management Service.
Moreover, the Russian steelmaker installed a high technology sealing system for gas exhaust pipes and smoke free coal loading to reduce hazardous emissions by at least 4mt a year. Mechel plans to reduce close to 20pc waste emission at the Chelyabinsk plant by 2024.
Moving forward the firm plans to install new systems to reduce waste emissions at the coke chemical workshops and revamp its coke battery #1 it said in the statement.
