Metalloinvest’s subsidiary, Alexey Ugarov, made and sold 1.04mn mt of cast square billets in 2020, exceeding its past record of 20,000mt achieved in 2016.
Metalloinvest said in a statement on Feb 5 that these billets are used in producing long products for the construction and automotive industry. Citing higher global demand for billets compared to the more-expensive finished rolled products globally, the company indicated it had increased its production of this product accordingly during the year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
The commercial cast billets are manufactured at Alexey Ugarov’s continuous casting machine #6 (CCM #6) since it was commissioned in 2005. The company has produced close to 12mn mt of billets since then.
