Metso Outotec plans to layoff around 80 people in Sweden as part of its operational reductions and restructuring.
The company said in a media statement on Feb 3 that the decision was part of its new product strategy and synergy targets after the Metso Outotec merger last year. The layoffs, most of which will include white-collar workers, will occur in its Minerals, Metals, and Services business segments across two Swedish locations of Skellefteå and Sala, the company indicated.
The Finnish mining services company, which also provides technology for the minerals processing, metals refining, and recycling industry noted it was negotiating with the local trade unions on the layoffs and the related restructuring of the company in those locations.
Metso’s minerals business was merged with Outotec Oyj last year with the former owning 78pc of the merged entity.
