The Mexican Secretariat of Economy has extended the countervailing duties (CVD) on hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports from Russia and Ukraine for five years.
Duties on HRC exported to Mexico were set at 21pc for Russia and 25pc for Ukraine, the economy ministry said in a resolution published in the country’s official gazette (Dof) on Mar 23.
The probe was opened following a request from the steelmakers Ternium Mexico and Altos Hornos de Mexico (Ahmsa) in February 2020. Imports have been entering the Mexican market at unfair prices and have affected the national production, the resolution read.
The duties will be valid from March 29, 2020, to March 29, 2025, according to data from the country’s official gazette. The products affected are classified under tariffs 7208.10.03, 7208.26.01, 7208.27.01, 7208.38.01, 7208.39.01, 7225.30.07 and 7225.40.06.
