Mexico’s car output and domestic sales increased in March on an annual basis on higher demand according to the National Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (Inegi).
Car production rose by 12.5pc to 303,545 units in March, from 269,774 vehicles produced in March 2020, Inegi indicated in a statement on Thursday.
Domestic sales climbed by 9.1pc to 95,513 units in March, from 87,541 vehicles sold in the same month of 2020. Exports, on the other hand, fell by 13.2pc to 256,119 units in March this year, from 295,199 cars shipped the same month the prior year.
Shipments to the US down
Vehicle shipments to the US fell by 14.6pc to 540,303 units in Q1 2020, from 632,619 vehicles exported in the same quarter of the prior year, according to Inegi. Shipments to Canada declined by 1.3pc to 51,219 units from 51,874 units and exports to Colombia fell by 20.5pc to 11,030 units from 13,871 units in the same period under review.
Exports to Europe dropped by 19pc to 46,768 units between January and March, from 57,730 units in the same prior-year period, and exports to Asia fell by 47.4pc to 9,371 units from 17,818 units in the same time frame.
