Exports of finished goods rose by 9.9pc to $37.7bn annually in March due to a higher demand for shipments of mining, machinery and special equipment, from several industries, at 30.2pc and 18.1pc more, respectively, National Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (Inegi) said in a statement on April 27 without disclosing volume.

The value of Mexican manufacturing exports increased in March annually due to higher demand from the US, but the automotive shipments fell 5.2pc to $11.9bn in the same period compared to the same month in the prior year.

The decline is mainly due to a fall of 1pc in automotive sales to the US, and a fall in sales of 23.9pc for other markets, Inegi said.

Mexico’s car output and domestic sales increased in March annually on higher demand. Car production rose by 12.5pc to 303,545 units in March, from 269,774 vehicles produced in March 2020. Domestic sales climbed by 9.1pc to 95,513 units in March, from 87,541 vehicles sold in the same month last year. Exports, on the other hand, fell by 13.2pc to 256,119 units in March this year, from 295,199 cars shipped during the same period in 2020, according to figures from the Inegi.
