The contribution of mining to Mexico’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 33.9pc during the first quarter of the year, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Economy (SE).
Mining contributed MXN1.23tn ($61.4bn) to Mexican GDP in Q1 2021 compared to MXN921bn in the same period a year ago, the SE reported.
In 2020, mining like all other industries was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, it contributed around MXN2.5tn to the economy through the 3,151 mining companies operating in the country.
