Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) delivered 2.5mn mt of metal products to the pipe industry in 2019—27pc more than the year before, and its second largest shipment increase since 2014 when it delivered 2.78mn mt.
Thirty-one percent of MMK’s rolling stock deliveries last year were to the pipe industry, making it the company’s most important sector. Rolling stock, which the company produces at its 2000 and 2500 hot-rolling mills and 5000 thick-plate mill, is used to make welded pipes. The 5000 thick-plate mill, launched in 2009, has increased MMK’s hot-rolled steel production, which is intended for large diameter pipe production.
MMK supplies leading pipe plants, like Seversky and Volzhsky, in Russia, as well as the country’s major pipeline projects.
