Russian steelmaker MMK’s Turkish subsidiary, MMK Metalurji’s sites in Dortyol and Dilovasi together produced 78,613mt of hot-dipped galvanized steel in January marking a record monthly volume for the company.

The Dortyol site produced 42,316mt of the product while Dilovasi’s output tallied at 36,297mt, MMK noted in a statement on Tuesday.

The steelmaker’s Turkish arm reported an annual EBITDA of $34mn in 2020 despite the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company attributed this gain to the rapid diversification of the two units in Q2 2020, which helped the plants meet the growing demand for steel after the shutdowns.

Moreover, the plants’ hot-dipped galvanized unit at the Dortyol site has been improved to increase the speed of the line for better output. MMK Metalurji is based in Iskenderun. The company’s sales increased by 2.8pc in 2020 to 741,000mt.
