Greek aluminum producer, Mytilineos plans to start using renewable energy by 2023 to improve the sustainability of the aluminum it produces.
Mytilineos stated that the power contract with energy provider PPC, from July 7, 2021, to December 31, 2023, for its Aluminum of Greece plant will be the last of its kind for the company.
Following the end of the contract, the company plans to make Renewable Energy Sources its exclusive supplier of electricity for the plant. Mytilineos also intends to reduce emissions by 30pc by 2030 and climate-neutrality by 2050. The company has committed to reducing absolute carbon emissions by 65pc and relative carbon emission by 75pc for the Metallurgy Business Unit as well.
The Aluminum of Greece plant has an annual production capacity of over 182,000mt of aluminum.
