Nespresso Canada launched new coffee capsules made from 80pc recycled aluminium and recyclable boxes for Nespresso machines made from 95pc recycled material.
The coffee capsules made using 80pc recycled aluminium are the Original Line Master Origin Colombia, the company added. By the end of the next year, Nespresso aims to have both initiatives extended to all ranges of consumer coffee and machines.
Nespresso’ shared that aluminium, besides being infinitely recyclable, protects the freshness and aromas of the coffee. These capsules are made of a thinner aluminium foil using 9.2pc less aluminium material and are 8pc lighter.
Recycling solutions
Nespresso’s recycling solutions include the Black Bag Solution allowing consumers to drop-off their used aluminium capsules to a Nespresso Boutique and the Red Bag Solution allowing them to drop off the used aluminium capsules in a Canada Post mailbox or post office.
The company has also come up with Green Bag Solution allowing citizens of the participating municipalities to deposit their used aluminium Nespresso capsules in a green bag, then to place the latter in their recycling bin at home.
These recyclable bags are first sent to the sorting centres and then to a local partner to undergo a mechanical process to separate aluminium.
In Canada, nearly 500 municipalities have joined the Green Bag Solution for used Nespresso capsules. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, Nespresso operates in 84 countries.
