National Mineral Development Corporation’s (NMDC) Nagarnar steel plant is in the final stage of construction. The plant is expected to commence production in the third quarter (Q3) of fiscal 2020-21.

 

The plant’s coke oven battery is scheduled to start the heating process from the first week of March 2020. The next stage involves the start of the blast furnace and other downstream facilities like steel melting shop and rolling mills which are likely to start from Q3 onwards.

 

Recently, the company has placed an order with heavy equipment maker L&T for the construction of a pump house for slurry & water pipeline systems and associated facilities at Bacheli, Chhattisgarh. The company’s upcoming steel plant capacity is 3mn mt. The plant will produce flat products including hot-rolled coil, sheets, plates along with other products like pig iron, granulated slag and BF coke.
