Pakistan’s total auto output in December 2020 increased by 22.15pc to 177,613 units as compared to 145,401 units in the preceding year, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (Pama). The country’s total auto sales in the same month stood at 174,734 units, up by 22.68pc from 142,434 units in Dec 2019.
Of the total, passenger car output in December grew by 37.51pc to 11,514 units from 8,373 units in Dec 2019, while sales for the same stood at 11,247 units, up by 12.62pc from the previous year.
Pakistani auto companies in December produced 2,696 units of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), vans, and jeeps, 260.91pc higher from 747 units in the year before, while sales for the same grew by 28.21pc to 2,709 units as compared to 2113 units in the preceding year.
Bus and truck output in December fell by 13.25pc to 279 units from the prior year, however, sales for the same rose by 8.57pc to 342 units as compared to 315 units in the same month in 2019.
Pakistan’s two-wheeler and three-wheeler production in December stood at 158,928 units, up by 17.57pc from 135,178 units in the prior year and sales rose by 21.92pc to 157,116 units as compared to 128,866 units in the preceding year.
The country’s tractor production in December increased significantly by 437.26pc to 4,196 units from 781 units produced in Dec 2019, while sales for the same were up by 187.94pc to 3,320 units as compared to 1,153 units in the preceding year.
Outlook
The demand for cars in Pakistan is likely to get stronger in the coming months as economic activities pick up in the country and the government cuts interest rates for auto financing, as per media reports. New model launches in January are also likely to attract consumers into buying vehicles.
