Indian steelmaker Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) will begin commercial production of forged wheels this month at its new plant in Rae Bareli in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The state-owned company’s new unit has a production capacity of 100,000 forged wheels per annum. The wheels produced at this unit will be supplied to the Indian Railways.
Once it reaches full capacity production, the Steel Ministry could double it to meet all requirements of the Indian Railways, a senior official of the ministry had said last year.
According to media reports citing company officials, all trials required before commissioning the plant have been completed.
Earlier, the Vizag-based company’s plan was to start commercial production by March-April 2020 following the hot trial of forged wheel lines at the plant, but the plan was postponed due to the pandemic-related lockdown.
In 2018, a manufacturing trial of 430 mm steel rounds to be used in forged wheel production was conducted.
