Russian producers exported 1.78mn mt of pig iron in January-June compared to 1.74mn mt in the same period of 2020, according to Russian Customs data.

 

In June 2021, pig iron exports from Russia totaled 432,000mt down 34pc from the same month a year ago. The US was the main outlet for Russian pig iron during the month with shipments tripling to 266,000mt annually.

 

Pig iron exports from Russia to Turkey decreased by 86pc to 43,000mt and increased to South Korea almost three-fold to 26,000mt. The country also shipped 22,000mt of the material to Germany, 21,000mt to Poland, and 14,000mt to Italy.

 

Russia’s pig iron output inched up by 3pc to 31.06mn mt in H1 2021, according to the World Steel Association. The country holds the fourth position in the world among the largest pig iron producers after China (456.38mn mt), India (58.15mn mt), and Japan (35.22mn mt).
