Japanese auto parts maker Ryobi has secured a deal worth £15mn ($20.03mn) per year to supply transmission parts for electric vehicles in the UK from its Irish facility. 

 

According to the company’s release, the manufacturer will produce 150,000 units of transmission and clutch casings from its Carrickfergus plant in Northern Ireland for a supplier in the automotive industry focusing on EV drivetrains, beginning 2023. The deal is slated to continue until “at least” 2030. 

 

The new contract is set to add 70 skilled workers to Ryobi Castings UK’s 600-strong workforce. The company was established in 1990 and initially supplied parts to the Ford Motor Company in the UK. Its customers now include the Volkswagen Group along with Peugeot, Citroen, and Jaguar-Land Rover.
