Steel Authority of India’s (Sail) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) produced 3,503mt of hot metal with its blast furnace-1 on August 17, setting a new single-day production record according to media reports. The furnace earlier recorded 3,457mt of output on February 12.
With a useful volume of 1,710 m³ and a working volume of 1,471 m³, the capacity of the furnace has been enhanced to 2,900mt/day. However, the furnace has been consistently producing 3,000mt of hot metal per day with a pulverised coal injection (PCI) rate of 100 kg/mt of hot metal.
On August 17, blast furnace-5 and blast furnace-1 together produced 11,713 tonnes of hot metal, the second-best single-day production with two operational furnaces.
