SeAh Steel is adding a new pin pile production line with an annual capacity of 72,000mt to its porfolio. The site in Gwangyang, South Korea acquired from Seen TecCorporation for KRW12.5bn ($10.6mn), will produce components for offshore wind power jacket foundations.

The expansion and location will help SeAh Steel boost its performance in its wind farm projects, the company said in a news release. SeAh Steel presently has a backlog of orders that exceed a year of production at 110,000mt. The company has been chosen to supply the wind power pipe components for the Gaoithe project in Scotland (450MW), St Brieuc project in France (496MW), and Xidao project in Taiwan (589MW).

The new site offers logistics benefits due to its proximity to Seah Steel’s Suncheon plant and the port. The Suncheon site primarily manufactures large diameter thick-walled pipes. The company will also work with SeenTec since it operates in the same industry.
