Taiwan’s ferrous scrap imports were at 386,573mt in December, up by 12.12pc from the prior year and an increase of 21.4pc from the prior month, according to Davis Index analysis.

 

In volume terms, US remained the top exporter of ferrous scrap to Taiwan with exports of 187,847mt. Japan’s exports increased by 317pc to 98,241mt in December from a year ago. Canada exported 22,595 mt of ferrous scrap to Taiwan, up by 81pc from the prior year.

 

Taiwan’s semi-finished steel imports in December declined by 47pc to 224,534mt in December compared to the prior year and fell by 9pc from the prior month. Japan remained a major exporter of semi-finished steel, exporting 127,542mt to Taiwan.

 

Ferrous scrap imports were higher than semi-finished, as the country is focusing more on increasing its domestic production of semi-finished steel products.
