Employees at Tata Steel’s Dutch factory in IJmuiden called off their strike action after the firm agreed to talks with the labour union CNV, reported local media.

Tata plans to cut more than 1,000 jobs at Ijmuiden to enhance the profitability of its European steel business. Ijmuiden employs around 9,000 workers at the plant. The plant employees have been on strike since June 10 and last week production was shut for 24 hours as workers cut the supply of iron ore to the blast furnaces.

The labour union has given the company two days to meet their demands. Tata Europe has said that it does not plan forced terminations; however, unions are demanding more guarantees for the future of IJmuiden, including an end to plans to integrate Dutch and British operations.
