Japanese automaker, Toyota’s global production and sales rose by 31.6pc and 44pc in March, respectively, compared to the prior year period. Global production and sales were up for the seventh consecutive month.
 

Production
Toyota’s worldwide production rose 31.6pc to 843,393 units in March this year compared to March 2020. Production in Japan stood at 310,934 units, up 11.4pc from the prior-year month. Production outside Japan was reported at 532,459 vehicles, up by 47pc from the prior year month. 

Exports in March rose 6.8pc to 180,111 units as compared to same month in 2020. 

 

In January-March period, Toyota produced 2.25mn units globally, up 13pc from same period, year prior. Production in Japan was almost flat compared to previous year at 794,776 units. Production outside Japan increased 23.5pc in Jan-March to 1.45mn units from the preceding year period. 

Sales
Toyota’s global sales in March zoomed 44.2pc to 982,912 units. Sales outside Japan rose 57pc to 791,568 units while sales in Japan reached 191,344 units, up 6.4pc from the prior year month.

 

Sales jumped on the back of low base year as the pandemic had set-in in March 2020 which resulted in lcokdowns and shut down of manufacturing plants across the globe. 
 

Global sales in Jan-March period reached 2.46mn units, up 19pc with sales in Japan increasing 8.1pc to 456,087 units and sales outside Japan rising 22pc to 2mn units in the same period last year.
