The Taiwan steel and iron industries association (TSIIA) has encouraged the government to negotiate lower tariff surcharges for Taiwanese products through President Wong Chao-tung, especially cold-rolled and coated steel to the United States during the Taiwan-US trade and investment talk.
Wong Chao stated on Wednesday, that the group received the resumed discussion under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). The US previously imposed a 25pc tariff on steel imports in 2018 after prior US president Donald Trump signed an order under section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act over national security concerns. A limited number of countries have been granted exemption from this duty.
