The daily Davis Index for Turkish imports of US-origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) increased by $1.40/mt to $274.80/mt cfr on Friday, following reported bookings from the US and UK.
A Marmara-based mill purchased two cargoes—one from an American supplier, which sold HMS 1&2 (80:20) for $275/mt cfr, and the other from a UK exporter that will ship 18,000mt of HMS 1&2 (80:20) for $270/mt cfr.
Some mills were in the market for scrap cargoes on Friday, and sellers responded with higher prices. Offers from the US and Baltic regions were reported at $280-285/mt cfr for HMS 1&2 (80:20), and from Europe at $275/mt cfr HMS 1&2 (80:20).
Scrap bookings are expected to continue in Turkey next week because mills still require 12-18 deep-sea cargoes, market participants estimate.
