Turkish steelmaker Koc Metalurji set a daily output record on Feb 29, producing 5,109mt of crude steel in a 24-hour span and making 51 hits in a 100mt arc furnace.
Koc Metalurji produces steel billets in sizes both 130x130mm and 150x150mm, and 3SP and 5SP qualities. The company mostly sells steel semis to the domestic Turkish market. It also began increasing output last month, expecting strong demand this spring.
The company purchases ferrous scrap from the domestic market and imports it. The most recent deep-sea cargo purchased in the second half of February from the US was at $282.50/mt cfr for HMS 1&2 (90:20), $285/mt cfr for shredded scrap, and at $290/mt cfr for bonus material.
