Turkey’s pig iron imports increased by 3.2pc in January-July 2020 but declined for HBI by 8.1pc during the same period.
Pig iron imports to Turkey reached 767,000mt in the first seven months of the year up from 743,000mt in the same period of last year, according to Turkish statistical source SteelData.
The CIS region supplied 79pc of pig iron in January-July 2020. Russia decreased its pig iron shipments to Turkey by 25.7pc to 400,000mt, while Ukraine increased its supply by 83.8pc to 206,000mt during the period under review.
Turkey’s pig iron imports from Germany, Brazil, and South Africa stood at 82,000mt, 58,000mt, and 11,000mt, respectively, in January-July of 2020.
HBI imports to Turkey declined to 347,000mt in the first seven months of 2020 from 378,000mt in the same period of last year, according to SteelData.
Libya became the key supplier of HBI and increased shipments almost four times to 139,000mt. As a result, the USA moved to second place, despite an increase in shipment to Turkey by 76.9pc to 136,000mt. HBI imports from Russia declined by 68.8pc to 70,000mt.
