Pig iron import in Turkey increased by 2.9pc, while shipments of hot briquetted iron (HBI) into the country dropped by 20.2pc in January-October 2020, according to SteelData.
In the first 10 months of the year, Turkish pig iron imports totaled 1.02mn mt compared with 993,000mt in the same period last year. CIS countries supplied 80.2pc of the material, though Russia decreased its pig iron shipments to Turkey by 8.9pc to 574,000mt during the period under review. Ukraine, on the other hand, increased its supply of the material by 61.5pc to 247,000mt.
Turkey’s pig iron imports from Germany, Brazil, and South Africa tallied at 89,000mt, 77,000mt and 21,000mt, respectively, in January-October 2020.
HBI imports to Turkey totaled 391,000mt in in the first 10 months of the year compared with 490,000mt in the same period of last year, according to SteelData.
Libya was the main supplier and increased its shipments by almost three times to 172,000mt. It was followed by the USA and Russia, which shipped 136,000mt and 81,000mt of HBI to Turkey, respectively.
