The prices for US secondary aluminum smelter delivered were mixed over the past week as secondary smelters looked to fill inventory gaps against tight scrap flows.
The weekly Davis Index for 2000/7000 solids dropped to 40.8¢/lb delivered on Wednesday, from 42.4¢/lb, while the index for old sheet increased to 42.2¢/lb from 41.7¢/lb. Old cast also increased from 40.6¢/lb to 41.4¢/lb on Wednesday.
The Davis Index for secondary MLC was unchanged at 44.8¢/lb delivered. However, the indexes increased for twitch and fell for tweak and zorba during the week. Tweak moved down from 43¢/lb to 41.4¢/lb delivered, while zorba dropped to 43.6¢/lb delivered, down from 45¢/lb on March 4. Twitch increased slightly to 44.3¢/lb delivered from 44¢/lb.
The three-month LME aluminum contract dropped significantly on Wednesday, closing at $1,672/mt down $59/mt from $1,731/mt on March 4.
