Vedanta’s Alumina Refinery at Lanjigarh will remain operational with all precautionary measures against COVID-19 as advised by the government and the health authorities, confirmed a company official in written communication to Davis Index.

 

The refinery in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district, Odisha, operational since 2007 has an annual alumina production capacity of  2mn mt and an associated 90 MW captive power plant. This refinery feeds Vedanta’s aluminium smelters like Jharsuguda in Odisha and Balco in Korba, Chhattisgarh.

 

The statement informed that the plant is running with minimum workforce and resources and adhering to all the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the central and state authorities. The plant has all due permissions from the concerned authorities to continue its operations, with all the precautionary and preventive measures in place.

 

The continuity of operations is important considering the importance of aluminium as a metal of strategic importance to India, informed the company. Additionally, Vedanta’s 20-bedded Hospital at Lanjigarh, which is dedicated to provide 24 X 7 healthcare services to the local community, will provide support to the district administration.
