The board of directors at China’s Yunnan Aluminium have approved the construction of the second phase of their smelting plant in Heqing County, Southwest China. The second phase will add 210,000mt of smelting capacity to the facility. Together, the first and second phase of the plant will have a combined capacity of more than 400,000mt once the new construction is completed.
The company is investing $185.8mn in this project as per its filing with Shenzhen stock exchange and expects a projected annual net profit of close to $137.7mn once the second phase is operational. Yunnan Aluminium did not reveal the start date for the construction of the project.
The state-owned firm has a current capacity to produce around 2.1mn mt of aluminum per year.
